Snack healthy with Yummy Spoonfuls

By | Press | No Comments

Yummy Spoonfuls founder Agatha Achindu tells us why healthy snacking is so important for little eaters. “Snack is a big part of our kid’s lives; some kids have as much as 3 snacks a day. The sad thing is that many of the snacks children consume are high-calorie, low-nutrient foods such as desserts, sugary, over-processed and salty snacks. It is no surprised that we continue to have so many diet-related diseases.” She writes in a blog entry highlighting the need for healthy food options for American children. She urges parents to shop smart. “At the market today consider swapping unhealthy food snacks with healthy fruits and vegetable.”

She even includes a very handy comparison chart to show the true difference small changes can make for your child’s overall health:

 snack-option

“Replacing a calorie-dense, low nutritive, overly processed snack with fresh fruits and vegetable not only reduce calorie intake but most importantly improve a child’s diet and thus their overall health.” Agatha writes.

Healthy Back to School Shortcuts with Tamera Mowry!

By | Press | No Comments

Originally featured on Tameramowry.com

08/25/2014

Mom, actress and lifestyle maven Tamera Mowry is a big fan of Yummy Spoonfuls. She gives parenting advice on her website Tameramowery.com and is often inspired by Yummy Spoonfuls founder Agatha Achindu.

One column Agatha contributed to shares back-to-school tips and primarily focuses on a major lunch time classic- the sandwich. “As parents, we often rely on sandwiches to fill hungry little tummies. Kids love sandwiches; they’re easy and quick.” Agatha writes. “Very likely, our kids will be eating lots of sandwiches this school year, so the best thing to do is make them count, nutritionally speaking.”

She goes on to provide several pieces of advice on how to make a healthy sandwich starting with bread. “It’s important to read labels. When you check the ingredients of most grocery store bread, you will find a very long list…Bread only requires four or five ingredients. Good flour, water, yeast, salt and maybe a bit of oil or sweetener is all it takes. ”

Next she addresses the fillings saying, “Look for fillings that are free of added sugar, salt and preservatives. Fresh is best, but if you use pickles, condiments, jams and jellies, check the labels to make sure these items are free of high fructose corn syrup, sugar, artificial colorings and preservatives.”

Finally, she sends the reader off with a comforting reminder. “Once you have the basics – healthy bread and wholesome fillings – be sure to enjoy the ease and simplicity of sandwiches. You don’t have to feel bad about taking shortcuts when you know the result is yummy – AND nutritious. ”

Why each baby food stage counts for your new little eater

By | Press | No Comments

Originally featured on Cuisinenoirmag.com

08/31/2011

Cuisinenoirmag.com talked to Yummy Spoonfuls founder Agatha Achindu about the humble beginnings of the organic baby food line and the importance of raising kids on the right foods.

Achindu told the popular food publication that her mother was a foodie and raised her on nothing but what she calls “real” food. No cans or processed foods.  “Until I was 21 years old, I never had commercial bread.  I didn’t even know you could find beans in a can.” Agatha mentioned in the interview.

The article went on to say, “Disappointed with the baby food choices available as well as seeing a need to help busy parents, especially working moms, find a way to feed their babies healthy and nutritious meals turned a hobby into a thriving business.”

The interview ended by saying, “She continues to be a passionate advocate for healthy eating and living, especially for babies, and will challenge manufacturers of baby food to let its consumers know how they really make the food and why consumers should believe that a jar or pouch with a shelf life of two years is healthy for babies.”

Back-to-School with Yummy Spoonfuls Co-founder Camila Alves

By | Press | No Comments

Originally featured on Corporate.target.com

The loving mother of three stopped by her local Target to stock up on cool supplies for her kids. Some school list highlights? Goodies from the new Bethany Mota line of notebooks and desk items, exclusive Puma backpacks, Cat & Jack clothing and so much more!

“My kids are all different with their style—anything sparkly or aqua colored for my daughter, and the boys are into outdoor-looking gear. Items like the glitter plastic pencil pouches and assorted notebooks, and all of the gear with camouflage designs, are right in line with my kids’ style,” Camila said.

“Packing a nutritious school lunch is really important to me, because I know that will affect their performance throughout the day,” Camila said. “Of course, I love to include Yummy Spoonfuls pouches in their lunches, from the new line of frozen organic baby and toddler food I helped create at Target. They are great for any age, my kids especially love the apple, banana and blueberry flavor.”
